Children’s Dentistry
The Canadian Dental Association recommends that all children should visit the dentist within 6 months of the first tooth erupting or before the child turns one.
Dental Development
Around 6-8 months of age, you will notice that your child will begin to push through their first teeth. The first two teeth that will erupt will be the bottom two front teeth, followed by the upper four front teeth. The remainder of your baby’s teeth will appear periodically until the child is around 2.5 years of age.
Your Child’s First Visit
Your child’s first visit to the dentist is usually short and involves very little treatment.
During your visit, your dentist may ask you to sit in the dental chair with your child. Our dentists will gently examine your child’s mouth, teeth and gums and evaluate unfavourable habits like thumb sucking to ensure your child’s teeth are healthy. Most importantly, our dentists will review how you can clean and care for your child’s teeth at home.
Children’s Dentistry Services
The goal in Children’s Dentistry is to have your child visit their dentist before there is a problem with their teeth. According to the Canadian Dental Association, “a dental exam every six months will let your child’s dentist catch small problems early.”
Your child’s regular dental appointments may include:
– Cleaning
– X-Rays (X-Rays show decay between the teeth and also allow you dentist to check if teeth are coming in properly)
– Topical Fluoride Treatment
– Protective Sealant
Kindersley Dental Clinic also offers Nitrous Sedation for children who require fillings or other restorative work.
