Take-home Teeth Whitening
A cosmetic technique called teeth whitening can lighten the shade of your teeth and erase stains or discoloration brought on by aging, medications, or lifestyle factors like drinking coffee, tea, or wine or smoking. It is crucial to keep in mind that the whitening results are not permanent, so periodic touch-ups may be needed to maintain your desired shade.
Take-home teeth whitening is a popular option for patients who prefer to brighten their smile at their own pace. At our clinic, our dentists will often take a before and after photo of your teeth to track your progress and compare the new lighter shade throughout the treatment.
With this option, our dentists will take an impression of your teeth to create custom-fit mouth trays. You'll receive a supply of whitening gel (usually containing hydrogen peroxide) along with instructions on how long to wear the trays each day. It's important to use only the prescribed amount of gel, as overuse can cause gum irritation.
Risks and Precautions
Take-home teeth whitening treatments can sometimes cause temporary tooth sensitivity. This typically fades a few days after the treatment ends. It's also recommended that pregnant or breastfeeding individuals avoid any teeth whitening treatments.
